Upon returning from MN & IA where I performed a couple of weddings, preached at a friend's ordination, and caught a matinee of the National Tour of 'Wicked,' the Central Coast was hammered by a storm that dropped several inches of rain, leaving thousands of households without power (erego the late posting this week). However - the shows must go on ... and so they shall!

As Fall officially arrives on the California Central Coast, a number of curtains fall on several area theatre productions - but one curtain falls so that another may rise on some other theatrical offering that is well worth your time!

Hard to believe that we bid farwell to September this week and welcome the beginning of October - the first full month of fall! Many areas of the country are experiencing fall colors and cooler temperatures - and even here on the California Central Coast, a change can be felt in the air. But regardless of the change of season in the weather - the seasons of our various area theatres continue to provide a steady diet and wide variety of quality live entertainment for your viewing pleasure!

In churches around the World, Sunday, October 4th, was World Communion Sunday - that one Sunday out of the year when churches set aside their theological and philosophical differences and celebrate that which they share in common ... what a novel idea! And up and down the Central Coast, theatres continue to celebrate what THEY have in common - a feast of quality live entertainment to fit every budget and taste!

Well, with the first weekend after Labor Day behind us, most churches have kicked off their fall program years. And speaking of kick-off - the first full weekend of NFL games is in the books ... how did YOUR favorite team do? And if you're not into either the church or football scene - thank God for the numerous Central Coast theatres that offer so many live performance alternatives as they launch or are already into their Fall Seasons!

With the Labor Day weekend comes the traditional end of summer and the beginning of many fall programs and activities: football, pumpkin patches, prepration for harvest ... and here on the Central Coast, many a theatre organization is preparing in earnest for their Fall Theatre seasons - or are already off and running!

As we flip the page on our calendars from August to September, a number of areas around the country are beginning to experience a change of seasons from summer to fall - kids are back in school, the temperatures are a bit cooler, and a few leaves are starting to show some autumn colors. But here on the California Central Coast - temperatures are still warm, and several theatres' Fall Seasons are just heating up!

Can it really be coming up on the end of August?! Let's see - the stores are all having their BACK TO SCHOOL sales and many schools have already started back in session ... the college students are starting to filter back into the area from their summer vacations ... and a number of theatres are bringing their summer show schedules to a close and launching the first productions of their fall schedules. YUP - must be the end of August all right!

Warm days with light until 8 PM ... pleasantly cool evenings ... crowds of people at the beaches ... shops, restaurants, and wine tasting rooms aplenty standing at the ready ... a lineup of live theatre entertainment to satisfy most every taste and budget - must be mid-August on the California Central Coast!

OFFICIALLY Summer doesn't end until September 22 - the date of the Fall Equinox ... TRADITIONALLY Summer ends on September 7 - the Monday of Labor Day weekend ... but in actuality, with many schools starting back on August 27 - there are only 2 WEEKS left in this Summer season. So, if you're gonna' fit one last summertime excursion into the family calendar - time's a wastin' ... but there will be NO time wasted if you use your time to take in one of the current or upcoming live theatre productions here on the heart of the California Central Coast!

As we enter the month of August, many places are experiencing the 'dog days of summer' - those hot and sultry days where ya' just don't feel like doin' anything ... and there's not a whole lot to do. Well - that is NOT the case here on the California Central Coast! The weather is wonderful, the grape vines are green and heavy with fruit (and the tasting rooms are open for business), the beaches are beautiful, the shops and restaurants are ready to welcome you, and there's more theatre goin' on than you can shake a stick at!

The calendar reminds us that we will soon bid farewell to July, which only leaves August and the first few days in September leading up to the Labor Day weekend to enjoy the summer fun in the sun that the beautiful California Central Coast offers vacation goers (not to mention those of us lucky enough to call this area our home!). We've got beaches, shops, restaurants, wineries, and a wide variety of live theatre for every taste and budget - so why not come and experience this little corner of God's Creation some time during the next month? If it's your first visit - I practically guarantee you it won't be your last!

Warm sunny days ... cool evenings ... picturesque beaches ... a veritable cornucopia of award winning wineries, fine dining, and unique shopping opportunities (check out www.kwirkworld.com) ... a broad selection of theatre offerings to satisfy a wide variety of tastes and desires ... this MUST be Paradise - or the California Central Coast!

As we experience the warm days and cool evenings of mid-July here on the California Central Coast, why not plan on coming to sample a bit of our ample theatre fare - along with our award winning wineries, beautiful beaches, plethora of shops and restaurants, and paradisiacal weather?
