'BURN THE FLOOR' Makes Its SF Premiere 1/30-3/15

The sexy international dance sensation Burn the Floor, making its San Francisco premiere January 30-March 15 at the Post Street Theatre, has signed on with the Australian Team to be featured in NBC's dance-themed reality/competition series, "Superstars of Dance." Created by "American Idol" creator Simon Fuller and Nigel Lythgoe of "So You Think You Can Dance," the show will feature teams of professional dancers from eight countries competing against each other in various dance genres. Each team will consist of two solo dancers, a duo and a group. "Superstars of Dance" premieres Sunday, January 4, 2009 at 9 p.m. on NBC.

Burn the Floor Artistic Director and Choreographer Jason Gilkison, known to reality TV fans from season 4 of "So You Think You Can Dance," will be the head coach and spokesperson for team Australia. Two of Jason's champion Ballroom dancers from Burn the Floor will compete as a duo for Australia-Henry Byalikov and Giselle Peacock, a native of the Bay Area who resides in Palo Alto when she's not touring the world. Giselle is a four-time U.S. Latin Dance champion who trained in San Francisco throughout most of her competitive career, and still teaches dance to kids at Dance Spectrum in Campbell.
Burn the Floor is a breathtaking blend of Latin and Ballroom dance first conceived during Sir Elton John's 50th birthday celebration in 1997. Two years later, the show made its world premiere in the U.K. and quickly took the globe by storm. Today, with producers Harley Medcalf and former World Champion Latin and Ballroom dancers Peta Roby and Jason Gilkison at the helm, Burn the Floor has sold more than three million tickets in over 140 cities worldwide.

From Harlem's hot nights at The Savoy, where dances such as the Lindy, Foxtrot and Charleston were born, to the Latin Quarter where the Cha-Cha, Rumba and Salsa steam up the stage, Burn the Floor takes audiences on a toe-tapping journey through the passionate drama and rich history of dance. The elegance of the Viennese Waltz, the exuberance of the Jive, the intensity of the Paso Doble-audiences will experience them all, not to mention the Tango, Samba, Mambo, Quickstep, Swing... it's Ballroom dance with a sexy 21st century edge.

All sixteen dancers in Burn The Floor including Henry Byalikov and Giselle Peacock will heat up the stage at San Francisco's Post Street Theatre (450 Post Street, 2nd floor) for six weeks only, January 30 - March 15, 2009. The press opening is Tuesday, February 3 at 8 p.m. The performance schedule is: Tuesday - Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. & 8 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m. & 6 p.m. Tickets range in price from $49 to $69 for regular performances; reduced-price previews and opening night (January 30-February 3) are $39 for all seats. Premium seats are also available.

Tickets are available in person at the Marines Memorial Theatre box office, by phone at 415-771-6900 or online at Ticketmaster.com. Discounts are available on groups of 10 or more by calling the number above.
