INEVITABLE Launchs San Francisco Playhouse's 2013 Sandbox Series, Now thru 3/23

The San Francisco Playhouse (Bill English, Artistic Director; Susi Damilano, Producing Director) launches the third season of their Sandbox Series with the world premiere, Inevitable by JorDan Puckett, Literary Manager of the San Francisco Playhouse.

What would you do if you could stop time? In Evelyn's desperate attempt to make sense of her life she grasps at the impossible: halting the inevitable ticking clock. But the cost of this seeming impossibility may be destroying the family she has worked a lifetime to create. Fantasy and memory collide in this family drama that examines questions central to the human experience. What does it mean to die? And when you do, what is the legacy that you want to leave behind?

The cast includes Keith Burkland*, Molly Noble* and Carlye Pollack.

The show previews tonight, February 27-March 1 at 8pm, opens March 2 at 8pm, and runs through March 23, playing Thursday, Friday & Saturday 8pm. All performances take place at 533 Sutter Street: Un-Scripted Theatre. For tickets ($20) or more information, the public may contact The San Francisco Playhouse box office at 415-677-9596, or www.sfplayhouse.org.

The mission of The Sandbox Series is to establish a creative environment for new and established playwrights to take their works to the next level from the page. In keeping with San Francisco Playhouse overall vision, the Sandbox Series is their component to promote new works utilizing top-notch directors and actors. With limited design elements and nominal advertising, the costs and risk of each production is minimal. With this reduced risk, San Francisco Playhouse strives to bridge the gap between "readings" and "main stage" productions, to provide increased exposure to the new voices in American Theater.

JorDan Puckett (Playwright) is a graduate from Northwestern University who began her tenure with the San Francisco Playhouse as an intern two years ago. She quickly demonstrated her abilities to don many hats including lighting designer and stage manager and is the full-time Literary Manager. As a playwright, Jordan is enjoying her second year as a member of the Playground Writers Pool.

Lauren English* (Director) is a founding member of the San Francisco Playhouse where she acts, directs, teaches and serves as Casting Director. Her favorite Playhouse roles include: Gillian in Bell, Book & Candle, Becky in Becky Shaw, Kelly in Reborning, Sally in Cabaret, Emily in Our Town and Lisa in The Glory of Living. New York Theatre: Celia in TACT's Off Broadway Production of The Cocktail Party, Ophelia in Hamlet at The NJ Shakespeare, and Sally in The Idealist at The New York Times Theatre. She has also worked at The Public Theatre, The Ensemble Studio Theatre, The Lark, The Playwrights Realm, among others. Locally, she has worked at The California Shakespeare Festival, Word for Word, Marin Shakespeare, and The Magic Theatre and is a Playground Company Member. She is a two-time BATCC award winner and three-time Dean Goodman Award Recipient. She holds an MFA from NYU's Graduate Acting Program.

Founded by Bill English and Susi Damilano in 2003, The San Francisco Playhouse has been described in the New York Times as "a company that stages some of the most consistently high-quality work around." Located right in the heart of the Union Square Theater District, The San Francisco Playhouse is the city's Off-Broadway company, an intimate alternative to the larger more traditional Union Square theater fare. The San Francisco Playhouse provides audiences the opportunity to experience professional theater with top-notch actors and world-class design in a setting where they are close to the action. The company has received multiple awards for overall productions, acting, and design including the SF Weekly Best Theatre Award and the Bay Guardian's Best Off-Broadway Theatre Award. Presenting a diverse range of plays and musicals, The San Francisco Playhouse produces new works as well as re-imagining classics, "making the edgy accessible and the traditional edgy." The company marks its 10th anniversary with the launch of its 2012-13 season in a new venue. The San Francisco Playhouse is committed to providing a creative home and inspiring environment where actors, directors, writers, designers, and theater lovers converge to create works that celebrate the human spirit.
