Starting July 9, Lamb's Players Theatre will bring one of its favorite signature productions, Stephen Schwartz and John-Michael Tebelak's Godspell, to downtown's Horton Grand Theatre. The production run is open-ended, and the company is currently selling tickets through the end of August.

Before he wrote the music and lyrics for Wicked, Working, or Pippin, Stephen Schwartz wrote Godspell. Go back another 1,971 years, and you'll find a guy from Galilee who changed the world. Now Lamb's Players returns to one of its most memorable shows of all time with a new cast and a sensational band, in a stirring production that incorporates Schwartz's recent musical additions to his now-classic score.

Packed with infectious songs like "Bless the Lord," "It's All for the Best," and the beloved anthem "Day by Day," Godspell tells the Greatest Story ever told - in a style that blends commedia, vaudeville, even Saturday Night Live-esque shtick - with music that ranges from cabaret to pop to reggae to show-stopping musical theatre. Joyous, funny, and inspiring, Godspell is a great time at the theatre and perfect for the whole family.

LPT Producing Artistic Director Robert Smyth will direct a cast which features LPT associate artist Lance Arthur Smith as Jesus, joined by Jessica Coutu, Season Duffy, Tracy Hughes, Jon Lorenz, Leonard Patton, and Greg Thompson.

Costume design is by Jeanne Reith, with lighting design by Nathan Peirson. The production stage manager is Maria Mangiavellano.

Tickets are currently on sale. They can be purchased by calling the LPT Box Office at (619) 437-0600, online at www.lambsplayers.org <http://www.lambsplayers.org> or by visiting the LPT Box Office in Coronado. The Coronado Box Office is open Tuesday - Saturday from noon till 7pm, and Sunday from 12 - 2 pm. The Horton Grand Box Office opens two hours before each performance: Thursday from 5:30 - 7:30pm, Friday from 6 - 8pm, Saturday from 2 - 8pm, and Sunday from 12 - 2 pm. The Horton Grand Box Office will be closed from June 15 through July 8th, but tickets may be purchased in person at the Coronado theatre, as well as by phone and online. Box Office locations: Horton Grand Theatre in downtown San Diego at 444 4th Ave. or Lamb's Players Theatre in Coronado at 1142 Orange Ave. For group ticket information call Susan Andrews at (619) 437-6050 ext. 26. Discounts are available to groups, seniors, active-duty military and members of LPT's Under-30 Club.

Season 2009 at LPT's Coronado Theatre

Across the San Diego - Coronado Bay Bridge from downtown, The Fantasticks is currently playing at Lamb's Players' Coronado theatre now through July 26. The Fantasticks started out a crowd-pleaser and ended up the longest-running musical of all time, with an astonishing 42-year New York run. A girl and boy who live in neighboring houses fall in love despite their parents' feud, until they find that the feud was a trick to bring about their romance. Summer is the perfect season for this sweetly beautiful, broadly theatrical fable about falling in love, growing up, losing childlike innocence, and coming home again wiser. With a gorgeous score filled with beloved songs like "Soon It's Gonna Rain," "I Can See It," and the international chart-topper "Try to Remember," The Fantasticks is a delicious musical confection that will delight your senses and renew your faith
in love.

Lamb's Players Theatre is one of San Diego's leading professional theatres. The company produces in two of the region's premier locations: San Diego's vibrant downtown Gaslamp Quarter, and the beautiful island community of Coronado. In the Gaslamp Quarter, Lamb's Players produces longer-running productions at the Horton Grand Theatre, a beautifully intimate 250-seat proscenium theatre located steps away from dozens of restaurants and nightspots, the San Diego Convention Center, and Petco Park. In Coronado, the theatre presents a full subscription season in its beautiful 350-seat theatre, just a short drive over the Bay Bridge from downtown San Diego. The company's Coronado theatre is within walking distance of numerous shops and restaurants, the Coronado beach, and the historic Hotel del Coronado.

San Diego's third largest theatre company, Lamb's Players Theatre is one of only a handful of artist-directed Ensemble theatres in the nation. The theatre is committed to the tradition of "repertory" theatre, maintaining both a long-term ensemble of resident actors and a body of work to which they frequently return. In addition to producing classics and lesser-known gems of the theatre, Lamb's Players is committed to the development of new work. The theatre also has a special interest in exploring spiritual issues for a diverse
mainstream audience.
