Napa Valley Opera House Summer 2010 Season Line Up - Tickets on sale NOW. A note from Artistic Director Evy Warshawski -This time of year is definitely one of my favorites. From May through Labor Day, I have the pleasure of sharing with you the eclectic arts puzzle that is the NVOH summer season.
This summer's puzzle pieces are comprised of shows and special events that are familiar, friendly, family oriented and most importantly, fun! We'll be throwing a few pre-show "foodie" parties on the newly opened Opera House Plaza and partnering with community organizations to provide great entertainment.
We are proud to again partner with the Robert Mondavi Winery this July to present a summer concert series, featuring everything from country favorites Court Yard Hounds (the sisters from the Dixie Chicks) to reggae legend Ziggy Marley.
We've also just announced two exciting shows - an evening with comedian Paula Poundstone on July 29 (now on sale) and a "Labor Day Luau" on September 4 with George Kahumoku and the Masters of Hawaiian Music.
Our current schedule is below, along with links to tickets and information and high-res images when available. We always looking for drop-in shows and exciting additions and we look forward to seeing you at the Opera House or on the lawn at the Robert Mondavi Winery this summer!

Spend an early summer evening with the songs of Harry Chapin as performed by the Steve Chapin Band. Harry's brother Steve and original band members Big John Wallace and Howard Fields will be performing Harry's most loved songs (Taxi, Cat's In The Cradle, Mr. Tanner, W.O.L.D.) and many more. Featured guest Jessica Craven (1/3 of the Chapin Sisters) will add her gorgeous voice to both Harry's and Steve's beautiful tunes. Steve and Big John's guitar playing boys (Jonathan & Clark) round out the band for what will undoubtedly be a charming musical performance and a true Chapin family event.

Formed in 1965, California band PAPA DOO RUN RUN quickly discovered their forte - they sounded like The Beach Boys! That sound led them to surf music icons, Jan & Dean, and from 1976-80 Papa toured North America with the duo. In the 80s Papa graduated from J&D to The Beach Boys, and toured and recorded with members of that band throughout the next two decades. The group also had an unprecedented 15-year run as the "Celebrity House Band" at Disneyland from 1975-90.
Their act encompasses all the great classic rock hits of the 60s and 70s, with a special emphasis on their award winning re-creation of the hits of The Beach Boys. Their best kept secret... Papa Doo Run Run is who The Beach Boys call when they need someone to fill in in their band. You can sit and listen or get up and dance at this fun-filled Café Theatre party.

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! This fun-filled sing-along promises to entertain even the grumpiest flying monkey. Dress up in your shiniest red shoes, pack Toto in his basket, comb your mane, fluff your hay, oil those joints and head on over to the Opera House to sing along to songs like: "Over the Rainbow," "The Lollipop Guild," "If I Only Had a Brain," "We're Off to See the Wizard" and "Ding, Dong The Witch is Dead!"
Don't worry... if you don't know the words, subtitles will be provided. And of course we'll have a costume contest!

For over 45 years, mandolinist/composer David Grisman has been busy creating "dawg" music, a blend of many stylistic influences (including folk, swing, bluegrass, Latin, jazz and gypsy) so unique he gave it its own name. In doing so, David has inspired a whole new genre of acoustic string instrumental music -with style and virtuosity, while creating a unique niche for himself in the world of contemporary music.

The Waifs possess sheer instrumental virtuosity. Whether it's acoustic guitar, mandolin or dobro, their performances on these strummed instruments are a delight. The road looms large and long in the Waifs' inspirational tale of self-determined international success. It intersected for sisters Donna Simpson and Vikki Thorn and guitarist Josh Cunningham in a remote corner of the Western Australian desert 17 years ago. Their mobile cottage industry of campfire-crafted songs and independently recorded gold-selling CDs slowly reached critical mass first in their native Australia and then the U.S.

One of Comedy Central's 100 Greatest Stand-Ups of All Time, Paula Poundstone is a frequent panelist on the National Public Radio news quiz show Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me! and a regular guest on A Prairie Home Companion. She has provided humor and commentary for the Emmy and Oscar Awards, and served as "official correspondent" for The Tonight Show during the ‘92 Presidential race as well as on The Rosie O'Donnell Show for the ‘96 campaign. She's earned two Cable ACE Awards, an Emmy and the American Comedy Award for Best Female Stand-Up. In addition to a short-lived ABC variety show, she was a regular on Hollywood Squares and To Tell The Truth, and voiced Judge Stone on ABC's Science Court. Her most recent release is 2009's I Heart Jokes.

The Preservation Hall Jazz Band derives its name from Preservation Hall, the venerable music venue located in the heart of New Orleans' French Quarter, founded in 1961 by Allan and Sandra Jaffe. A native of Kingston, Jamaica, Ziggy first sat in on recording sessions with his father, Bob, when he was ten years old. Joining with his three siblings to become The Melody Makers, Ziggy crafted his own soulful sound blending blues, R&B, hip-hop and reggae. After two decades as the driving creative force behind the three-time Grammy-winning act, Ziggy released his debut solo album, Dragonfly, in 2003 and Love Is My Religion in 2006, which earned his fourth Grammy Award. With his third solo release, Family Time, Ziggy shares his musical love with families - his own and the extended human family. In addition to his skills as a singer, songwriter and producer, Ziggy founded U.R.G.E.
