THE KING AND I
Havre de Grace High School
3/1-3/3/2013
The 'G2K' Getting To Know Series: Uniquely adapted musicals specifically for youth performers. East versus West makes for a dramatic, richly textured and ultimately uplifting tale of enormous fascination. It is 1862 in Siam when an English widow, Anna Leonowens, and her young son arrive at the Royal Palace in Bangkok, having been summoned by the King to serve as tutor to his many children and wives. The King is largely considered to be a barbarian by those in the West and he seeks Anna's assistance in changing his image, if not his ways. With both keeping a firm grip on their respective traditions and values, Anna and the King grow to understand and, eventually, respect one another, in a truly unique love story. In this adaptation for pre-high school students, the content has been edited to better suit younger attention spans, but all the magic and beauty of the original are still in place. You and your students will be enchanted by the timeless story and the dazzling score, while at the same time learning about theater and its production. PLEASE NOTE: All schools wishing to peruse or perform a G2K musical should apply through theaeHal Leonard Corporation by contactingaegettingtoknow@halleonard.com. Community theatres and youth organizations should apply by clicking on the license button below. For questions related to G2K musicals, contact an R&H representative at (800) 400-8160. Music by Rodgers, Richard; Book and Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II

FOOTLOOSE
Justin-Siena High School
2/28-3/9/2013
One of the most explosive movie musicals in recent memory bursts onto the live stage with exhilarating results. When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, Ren is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school. What he isn't prepared for are the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher, determined to exercise the control over the town's youth that he cannot command in his own home. When the reverend's rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren's reputation, with many of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid. The heartfelt story that emerges is of a father longing for the son he lost and of a young man aching for the father who walked out on him. To the rockin' rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated top 40 score (the soundtrack album reached number one on the Billboard charts and has sold over 15 million copies!) and augmented with dynamic new songs for the stage musical, FOOTLOOSE celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind.Music by Tom Snow; Lyrics by Dean Pitchford; Stage Adaptation by Dean Pitchford and Walter Bobbie; Based on the original screenplay by Dean Pitchford; Additional Music by Eric Carmen, Sammy Hagar, Kenny Loggins and Jim Steinman

Dead Metaphor in Broadway DEAD METAPHOR
American Conservatory Theater
2/28-3/24/2013
When Dean returns home from the war in Iraq, he discovers that his superior sniper skills don't get him very far in the working world. He readjusts to non-bunker life by moving in with his parents and pregnant ex-wife, then reluctantly takes the only job he can get-as poster boy for a crusading politician on her own mission for "truth and justice." A hilarious dark comedy about the hypocrisies and politics of postwar living, Dead Metaphor showcases the imaginative, audacious work of one of Canada's most acclaimed playwrights.

God of Carnage in Broadway GOD OF CARNAGE
The Shelton Theatre
2/8-3/30/2013
The Shelton Theater presents Yasmina Reza's GOD OF CARNAGE translated by Christopher Hampton Don't miss the triple-Tony-Award-winning Broadway sensation God of Carnage, by Yasmina Reza (Art). The New Yorker calls this laugh-out-loud hilarity "ninety minutes of sustained mayhem." In unanimous critical praise for its Broadway debut, God of Carnage has been hailed "first class" (The New York Times) and "scabrously funny" (USA Today) and earned the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy and three Tony Awards, including Best Play. Two upper-middle-class Brooklyn couples meet to discuss an incident of playground violence between their sons. Though the evening begins with polite pleasantries, it quickly descends into primal madness as tempers flare, loyalties shift and the parents devolve into children. Like last season's Art, Reza ferociously and hilariously strips her affluent, over-achieving characters down to their savage core. Performance Times: Thursday, Friday and Saturday 8PM
