$37.50
manda has been called "...the greatest cabaret performer of her generation, an urban poet who writes like an angel and has a voice to match." Her name first came to the attention of the music public when Bette Midler's version of Amanda's song THE ROSE hit number one all over the world in 1979. But it was Amanda's performance of her own song on the Golden Globes (she won), Grammys (she didn't) and The Tonight Show that launched her career as a singer as well as songwriter.

In the late'60s, Pete and his brother Coke disbanded The Escovedo Brothers Latin Jazz Sextet to tour with Carlos Santana. In 1970, the brothers left the Latin Rock scene and founded Azteca, a cooperative 14-piece Latin big band. Today, Pete leads what is widely considered one of the finest ensembles in Latin Jazz, a mix of musicians from both Los Angeles and the Bay Area. The end result is a joyous concoction of Latin rhythms with elements of jazz, R&B and funk that is hard to resist.

Soul Legend MARLENA SHAW
A Natural Treasure
Thu-Fri, 11/29-30, 2012, 8pm
Sat, 12/1, 2012, 7 & 9:30pm
Sun, 12/2, 2012, 7pm
$35-40
While everyone agrees that Marlena Shaw is a National Treasure, it's difficult to categorize her. Both Downbeat and Record World have named her "Best Female Singer," and many have compared her range, class and swing to eternal jazz lights like Sarah Vaughan, Dinah Washington, and Nancy Wilson. She's also been called a "soul legend." Whether she's singing jazz, R&B, pop, rock, soul, blues or gospel, her originality makes such distinctions irrelevant, and each song becomes intimate and new.
