Smoke to Host Miles Davis-Inspired Play, BEYOND BLUE LIGHT, 6/4

Smoke Jazz & Supper Club-Lounge is going from live jazz to live theater on Monday, June 4th, presenting a MiLes Davis-inspired play written by Smoke co-owner Frank Christopher. The evening, which begins at 6:30 pm and is part of the club's month-long MiLes Davis Festival, will also feature a live performance of a classic MiLes Davis record and a three-course dinner, all for just $49.95.

The play, titled "Beyond Blue Light" in honor of the jazz musician's record "Kind of Blue" is directed by Lea DeLaria and stars Tony Nominee Lou Liberatore and Shannon Burkett. It's a two character show reminiscent of Terrence McNally's Frankie and Jonnie In The Claire du Lune. Set in a studio apartment in NYC, Topher and Marla, two struggling New York artists discover real love that transcends life's ups and downs through a mutual admiration of MiLes Davis' classic record.

 

While enjoying the theater, guests can dine on Executive Chef Patricia Williams' stylish and satisfying fare, such as Braised Shortribs with, creamy jalapeno grits, sautéed spinach, organic Buttermilk Fried Chicken with tomato gravy, collard greens, house made biscuits and a carefully composed cheese plate. The play will be followed by a live performance of "Kind of Blue," courtesy of John Farnsworth Sextet, featuring Jeremy Pelt on Trumpet.
