Val Diamond, Star of Steve Silver's BEACH BLANKET BABYLON Leaves The Show

Producer Jo Schuman Silver announced today that Val Diamond, longtime star of Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon, has left the show after over 30 years of performing in the hit musical revue. Diamond is looking forward to other opportunities in the performing arts in the Bay Area and beyond.

Diamond made her debut in Beach Blanket Babylon in January 1979 and since then has performed in over 11,500 performances and for millions of people, including Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Senator Dianne Feinstein as well as some of Hollywood's most famous celebrities.

"Val is one of the most versatile and professional performers to ever grace the stage at Club Fugazi," says Schuman Silver. "Beach Blanket Babylon's long running success is, in part, due to Val's immeasurable contributions to the show. We all wish her well."

Over the span of her Beach Blanket Babylon career, Val has performed an array of eclectic characters including a singing envelope, a Jewish mother, a French streetwalker, Marie Antoinette, a Japanese maid, a cowgirl and Miss San Francisco wearing the iconic San Francisco skyline hat.

Born in Oakland, California and raised in Castro Valley, California, Diamond became attracted to the theatre at a very young age. After graduating from Castro Valley High School, she became the lead singer of a rock band and toured the United States with them for several years. After returning back to the Bay Area, Diamond was persuaded by a friend to audition for Beach Blanket Babylon. Creator Steve Silver was impressed by Diamond's talent and hired her for the show. In addition to performing in Beach Blanket Babylon, Val has used her celebrity status to raise thousands of dollars for various non-profit organizations throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
