WICKED San Francisco Announces Behind the Emerald Curtain at the Orpheum Theatre

The San Francisco company of WICKED offers a rare insider's glimpse into the world of the blockbuster Broadway musical. Behind the Emerald Curtain, an exclusive look at the creative journey of WICKED, hosted by cast members from the show, will be offered every Saturday morning at 10 AM beginning October 17 at The Orpheum Theatre (1192 Market Street) where the show continues its open-ended engagement. The 90-minute experience gives audience members the unique opportunity to see what happens to make a big Broadway musical like WICKED come alive at every performance everything from design and production to performance and marketing. Tickets go on sale Monday, October 5.

Tickets are $30 (which does not include admission to WICKED) and are available for purchase at shnsf.com, on Ticketmaster.com, by calling Ticketmaster (415) 512-7770 and at the Orpheum Theatre Box Office. Also, large groups can arrange for private tours on Wednesday mornings (or at other times, subject to availability) by calling SHN GROUP SALES at (415) 551-2020 or e-mailing groupsales@shnsf.com.

In addition to the ongoing Saturday morning tours there will be some additional special Wednesday tours at 10 AM during the Holiday Season:

Nov. 4 and 25 and Dec. 9 and 23

Behind the Emerald Curtain is a museum tour and presentation featuring:

A question-and-answer session with current cast members - hear personal anecdotes about appearing in WICKED as well as what lies ahead for the musical phenomenon in San Francisco as well as around the world.
Little-known facts about what it takes to make the world of Oz come to life eight times a week.
The exclusive Behind the Emerald Curtain Museum, including:

An up-close look at some of Tony Award-winner Susan Hilferty's costumes -- with beautiful details not always visible from the audience.
The chance to see some of the show's props and wigs.
Tony Award-winner EuGene Lee's set model.
Special film footage about the making of the global hit production.
Production photos of the San Francisco company as well as the Broadway, Chicago, London, and touring companies.

Behind the Emerald Curtain was originally created for the Broadway production of WICKED in September 2005 and has since welcomed more than 80,000 guests. The new San Francisco edition of Behind the Emerald Curtain joins the Broadway version as well as one at Universal Studios Hollywood, where a special student edition is introducing a new generation of theatergoers to the behind-the-scenes wonders of live theatre.

Winner of 26 major awards including the Grammy Award and three Tony Awards, WICKED is the untold story of the witches of Oz. Long before Dorothy drops in, two other girls meet in the Land of Oz. One, born with emerald-green skin, is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. WICKED tells the story of their remarkable odyssey, how these two unlikely friends grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good.
