Was just told by a friend that Teal Wicks is out as Elphaba in WICKED, and Vicki Noon is taking over the part full-time until mid-June. Meredith Kaye Clark is the new standby.

I heard about this the other day too. Something about Teal having some trouble with her throat? That's what I heard. Is she coming back then in June, or are they finding a replacement?

I was told there is a slight chance she will return, but most likely they will just find a replacement after June because she was quickly ruining her voice doing the show 8 times a week, which was causing her other health problems as well. This happened to Caissie Levy too!

This is my first post at Broadway World but have been posting for a very long time at the Wicked fansite Witches of Oz. Teal unfortunately has missed more than half of the performances since the production opened in S.F. and people have been speculating there about her health for some time. This rumor first popped up in an internet blog but was squelched by SHN the production company in charge of Wicked in S.F. who denied that she had been replaced. Then several days later Meredith Kaye Clark who was the Elphaba Standby on the 1st tour popped into town to become the Standby for Vicki since Angel Reda, the U/S was out on medical leave. The next rumor by someone who knows was that Dee Roscioli would be coming in to take over as a temporary standby for Vicki Noon on April 7th. Teal was slated to return on April 21, but if what you're saying is true then it looks like Teal could be out. Just wish that someone from SHN would make an official announcement and end all the innuendo and outuendo. Feel bad for Teal who got the role in L.A. when Caissie blew out her voice. It's very sad that it may have happened to her now. Hopefully TPTB will finally realize that the American companies need to go to the schedule they have in Germany and in Australia where there the lead Elphaba/Glinda only perform 5 or 6 shows a week.

I've never understood why Wicked is so loathe to have alternate Elphabas, especially since having alternate Kims, Frankies and Christines is the norm.

From WoO and a person who has contacted SHN via e-mails about the status of Teal: Here is what SHN told me today: "Thanks for the email. We have nothing official to announce as of yet, but I assume the producers will give us some detail soon once the situation has been worked out. Thanks for your patience and let me know if you have other questions." Before they flat out denied that Teal was out but now they're singing a new tune. Me thinks they obviously know but aren't saying.

Saw the 2pm show today (April 1) with Merideth Kaye Clark in the lead role as Elphaba and she was AWESOME! With the Elphaba musical chairs going on with the various illnesses, it is good to see they show is in good hands with its standbys and u/s.

I watched wicked on the 28, and I was dissapointed that vicky was out cause I heard great things about her, but from the moment Merideth came out and sang the 'Wizard and I", I was blown away by her, she was really good. Her "Defying Gravity" was amazing and so moving, that I even got some teary eyes after she sang defying gravity. Her "No good deed" was extraordinaire as well, and she had great chemistry with Kendra, she was definitely one of the best Elphabas I seen.

Angel Reda who has returned from medical leave made her debut as Elphaba in the S.F. production last night and was on again this afternoon. Supposedly Tuesday is when Dee Roscioli starts as Standby since Meredith Kaye Clarke has returned to the 1st Tour.

Wait, Dee Roscioli is standing by? That's ridiculous. Does she only want to go on when necessary then? I can understand that because of how long she's done Chicago. As far as Teal being out--it's not a shock. Just as many of those before her *cough*Eden*cough* , Teal strained her way through the entire show. Gorgeous voice, terrible technique. She pushed and pulled and like Caissie, her voice gave out. I wish these producers would wise up and find people who can handle the role, get an alternate, or send these girls to a REALLY GOOD voice coach, like Seth Riggs. So is this the Elphaba list: Vicki Noon - Lead Dee Roscioli - Stand-by? Angel Reda - Understudy (she really needs to get bumped up)

Yes, but Teal will be returning, apparently. I wouldn't be surprised if the producers put Vicki on Broadway after Nicole being that she proved she can handle it.

And this from the Angel Reda Home Page: Teal's vacation starts today and Dee Rosicioli will be acting as Standby to Vicki Noon. The 2 shows Angel was supposed to get, she will no longer be getting. Dee WILL NOT be getting those shows. Vicki will do all shows the next two weeks. If she calls out then Dee will go on. Angel will only go on if both Vicki and Dee are unavailable.

^Nope! She's still on vacation or vocal rest and her return date has now been pushed back to Friday, April 24th. Dee Roscioli went on this week at the Wednesday matinee on April 15th. Who knows? Maybe she'll do the Saturday matinee this week.

I took my husband to see Wicked for the first time Friday night (4/17) and we were both moved to tears by Vicki's amazing vocals. I was nervous to have 3 understudies, I've seen the show before and have listened to the soundtrack many times and was a little nervous about how it'd be. I'm a huge Idina fan and as hard as this is to say- I really think Vicki does the best Elphaba. Her notes are so full and pure, it was such an amazing performance! My husband thought so too and hey, moving a guy to tears with a musical is no small feat Why don't they give her the role full time? And does she have a CD or anything?

I saw the matinee this afternoon (4/22) before reading any of this and thought Vicki was really wonderful. She paced herself through the scow with the vocals, held off when she needed to, and really brought it in W&I, DG, and NGD. She's quite a talent. I do however hope that Teal gets better and gets the chance to return, she really is phenomenal. I just hope the producers get their act together and do a split schedule like others have mentioned. And btw, I had never seen the show live before and it was phenomenal. I LOVED it.

Just saw Wicked last night for the 14th time... 7 times since it's been in SF.. 4 times in LA.. 2 times in Chicago..once on broadway.. kinda sad that Teal isn't performing but extremely impressed with Vicky Noon.. she was on fire!! She has had tremendous growth since I saw her the first time in January during a matinee performance.. Her vocals are truly amazing.. Kendra seemed a bit off at the start but as the show went on, she delivered her usual great performance.. Nicholas Dromard was vocally challenged during Dancing Through Life but his acting made up for it.. 3rd time seeing Patty Duke and she is getting comfortable with the role and getting stronger.. Her "wicked witch" during defying gravity was awesome it sent chills down my spine.... Has anyone see Dee in the lead of the SF performance?? She was impressive in Chicago.. Favorite Elphaba: Eden Espinosa runner up Vicky Noon Favorite Glinda: Megan Hilty, runner up Erin McKay
Wicked! My untold re-telling of seeing this show over and over again! |

Tonight was supposed to be the night that Teal returned, or at least, she was aiming to return, but it's still Vicki. Weird that Teal gets the starring role photo on the marquee but hasn't even performed half of the time since the S.F. production opened. Enough is enough! It's time for Teal to take a permanent vacation from the role and let Vicki be the real lead IMO! "Has anyone seen Dee in the lead of the SF performance?? She was impressive in Chicago". While she was in S.F. she had one performance and here's a link to someone who saw her and loved her. http://www.witchesofoz.com/wicked_boards/index.php?showtopic=32999

It's extremely unfortunate about Teal. I'm positive this is not the way she intended things to pan out. I've read on a couple of sites that the reasons are personal rather than vocal. Does anyone know if that's true? Also, I think Vicki is great standby material but I do not feel the passion and intensity coming from her that a true lead should have. I hope they bring in someone new.
